Blog posts   •   Apr 30, 2012 12:10 BST

I have just returned from the North Wiltshire Cotswolds four-day break led by Elizabeth Savage. I just wanted to say what a brilliant time I had, and can recommend this one to everyone.

The Delights of St CuthbertÆs Way - Nigel Sloan

Blog posts   •   Nov 23, 2010 14:53 GMT

The water beside the causeway was still 6 inches deep, as we took off our boots and socks, rolled up our trouser-legs, and headed out over the sands on the direct Pilgrim’s Route to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne.

We were fortunate that Ramblers Worldwide Holidays arranged us an early morning flight to Guernsey, arriving at The Pandora Hotel by 09.15. We dropped our bags and set out to explore St Peter Port.

History and Heather -Tony Keeling

Blog posts   •   Oct 12, 2010 17:30 BST

The week on the Orkney’s started with a relaxing walk, an ideal way for us to get to know our fellow ramblers and for our leader Claire to asses our abilities. We walked in the sunshine exploring Stromness, then along the coastal path in search of seals, after a lunch break back into town to explore the museum and teashops.

“Hassness, a fabulous place for walking in the Lake District”. This is how one of the French members of our group (17 French, 1 German and 2 British walkers) from the French Alps, described his impressions of his week’s stay in the beautiful house of Hassness on the shore of Buttermere.

Cornish Coastal Path - Marion Osgood

Blog posts   •   Sep 09, 2010 15:20 BST

Sub-tropical palm trees swayed, and the exotic plants of Penzance were almost flattened in the decidedly non-tropical lashing of an English summer storm. We stared from our hotel room out across the bay to where St Michael’s Mount should be; it was invisible in the blend of heavy mist and grey skies.

Settle Carlisle Railway - Peter and Margaret Wakeling

Blog posts   •   Sep 03, 2010 16:18 BST

Our first walk using the Settle Carlisle Railway was from Horton-in-Ribblesdale, and was to end at the famous Ribblehead Viaduct. The geological features of the limestone, sandstone terrain, with its sinkholes and fast flowing disappearing streams, were explained by Simon our Leader.

The Edge of Wales - Ellen Portess

Blog posts   •   Aug 11, 2010 13:14 BST

Having eventually arrived at our hotel on the rather remote Llyn Peninsula in North Wales, and met the other 8 members of our walking group, we were delighted with the varied menu choice and extremely generous portions at our first – and subsequent – dinners.

Land of the Prince Bishops - Jill Gigg

Blog posts   •   Aug 11, 2010 12:15 BST

I have been on several Ramblers Worldwide holidays since my husband died and I tried to persuade a friend who has recently been widowed that it is an ideal way to take a holiday.

I got to Hassness quite late, having stopped en route to meet some friends inManchester. To my surprise, I had the M6 to myself over Shap. As soon as I got to theButtermere valley, I discovered where everyone was – Hassness.

Through the Window of the Mill - Helen Nelson

Blog posts   •   Aug 04, 2010 11:29 BST

In previous years, a breeding pair of swans had brought their offspring down from the lake at Brocket Hall to meet us and we would get quite attached to them, until it was time to “fly the coop”.

The Best of the Peak District - Beryl Braithwaite

Blog posts   •   Jul 23, 2010 15:20 BST

I received two surprises on the very first day. Having missed the hotel on my way in to Matlock Bath I went on into the centre and discovered it is not the quiet spa town that I had anticipated!

What a fantastic place with so much to do and see; I am sure we only skimmed the surface. Our guide, Gerry was brilliant and had put together some varied walking and sightseeing tours on local and private buses and taking the ferry to Rousay and Hoy.

Paul Sparrow was our gentle and conscientious guide for the five glorious days of walking the Shropshire hills, laden down with anoraks, waterproof trousers, hats and scarves – none of which were needed as we basked in warm spring sunshine.

Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire Coast - Lee Calladine (DRWF)

Blog posts   •   Jun 29, 2010 12:56 BST

It’s not too hot and it’s not too cold, not too wet and not too dry. Imagine our surprise this year then, when the sun came out in a searing and sweltering thirty degrees, with not even a hint of a sea breeze to even take the edge off.

Arriving at the Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel on Sunday 10th May (once owned by Beatrix Potter), I met early arrivals and regular walkers Colin Mills and Lynwood Newman. We enjoyed a great dinner and a chance to catch up on the last year’s news and gossip.
