Enthusiastic walker Gerry Carson has just returned from one of our new holiday destinations, the Garfagnana Valley in central Italy. Gerry reports that he had a great time in this less-visited area, and his photos certainly showcase the beauty of this ideal mountain walking location.

A Walk through the Cotswolds - Karen Nicholson

Blog posts   •   Apr 30, 2012 12:10 BST

I have just returned from the North Wiltshire Cotswolds four-day break led by Elizabeth Savage. I just wanted to say what a brilliant time I had, and can recommend this one to everyone.

The Yorkshire Dales - Sheila Cornett

Blog posts   •   Jun 23, 2010 12:45 BST

Slightly apprehensive before meeting on Day Zero. Am I the only novice? Will there be others on their own? In this group of 15 walkers gathered in Skipton, I’m relieved to discover another newbie to rambling and some other singletons.

Our Barbados Holiday - Val Brien

Blog posts   •   Feb 12, 2010 16:20 GMT

We were a group of ten arriving on this lovely Caribbean island from the cold and snow covered UK. We were driven by minibus to our two hotels adjacent to one another – the Blue Orchids and the Coral Mist.

Walking in Dubrovnik

Blog posts   •   Feb 11, 2010 13:59 GMT

In the UK I’ve led – Northumberland (St Cuthbert’s wonderful Way, and Northumberland’s Heritage based at the amazing Battlesteads Hotel); and Europe was really inspiring and varied, but I love Dubrovnik.

El Rompido Christmas 2009 Pt 1 - Maureen Haycock

Blog posts   •   Feb 03, 2010 11:52 GMT

Our leaders, John & Adam, had revised the itinerary to enable those who had ‘lost’ a day travelling (due to bad weather in the UK) to maximise their time, and our first day was spent with John walking across the marshes to El Rompido to catch the bus into Huelva.

El Rompido Christmas 2009 Pt 2 Maureen Haycock

Blog posts   •   Feb 02, 2010 18:35 GMT

It’s still raining, but undeterred (as Ramblers are) we travelled north from El Rompido to Alajar; a charming tiny hillside village set in the Sierra de Aracena amongst woods of cork oak amongst which goats could be seen grazing.

Romantic Umbria - Ann Cartland

Blog posts   •   Jan 27, 2010 16:10 GMT

Every year I’m pulled back to Italy. Why? Maybe it’s because Italians know the ropes, so to speak. They’ve been welcoming travellers to their beautiful land for centuries, and they’re proud of their culture.

Return to Andorra

Blog posts   •   Jan 26, 2010 18:37 GMT

The indescribably lovely valleys and lakes branching off from the Valira were ample compensation for the rather traffic clogged and bespoiled main valley. And the range of hard walking at a solid C+ was second to none.

Blog posts   •   Jan 26, 2010 16:38 GMT

Asked to chose the single most striking feature of this Tour it has to be the sheer natural beauty of the Kackar mountain landscape in the Karadeniz region of Turkey.

Life on St Lucia

Blog posts   •   Jan 26, 2010 16:12 GMT

I had the beach all to myself or so I thought but then I heard this voice behind me. Would I like a piece of grapefruit? That’s very kind of you, thank you. She peeled the grapefruit and then each segment individually.

Colourful Crete

Blog posts   •   Jan 07, 2010 16:48 GMT

And where in the world if the local bus is full would they get another one out of the depot and put it on just for your group? They do in Crete! So the following year I went out in the Spring.

A Classic South American Adventure

Blog posts   •   Oct 31, 2009 16:53 GMT

Some think that Rio de Janeiro has the most beautiful situation of any city in the world. That’s difficult to argue with as you contemplate the view from beneath the giant figure of Christ.

I Love Lanzarote!

Blog posts   •   Oct 19, 2009 17:11 BST

I really am passionate about travel, and have always been a keen walker as well. A while back I wanted a career change from my job in Management for a national institution, and I realised that my best attributes (commented on by other people!) were my positivity, my energy and enthusiasm and my love of people in general!
